Feb 24th, 2018
The 68th Berlin Film Festival (or the Berlinale) took place from February 15 to 25 in the cosmopolitan and exciting capital of Germany: Berlin. This year about 334,000 public tickets were sold and more than 21,000 professional visitors from 127 countries attended the festival. The attendees of the 68th Berlin International Film Festival were able to choose among a variety of 400 films of every genre, length and format, most of them being either international or European premieres.
Besides being a major hub for film fans, the Berlinale is also a very important meeting point for the industry professionals. From February 15 to 23, 2018 the 30th European Film Market (or the EFM) opened its doors to film professionals: producers, buyers, sales agents, distributors, exhibitors, financiers and so on. Over 550 professionals from 108 countries attended the international trade fair for film and audiovisual content at two major market locations: the Martin-Gropius-Bau and the Marriott Hotel. The goal of the EFM is to create a platform that helps professionals (both: young and experienced) make useful connections.
Fameuz.com was honored to be a part of the festival and the film market, as we successfully exhibited at the Marriott Hotel on Potsdamer Platz. The main goal of our participation was to find high-quality webinar tutors willing to collaborate with the website; therefore, during the EFM, we had several meetings with professionals from different fields (producers, composers, screenwriters, directors, actors and many more). As part of the Festival, Fameuz.com also attended some events of the Berlinale Talents section, where industry leaders attending the Berlinale were invited to conduct workshops and discussions with 250 promising young film talents from all over the world. The team of Fameuz.com invited some of the aspiring talents to our stand in Marriott Hotel to discuss further collaboration.
Fameuz.com, moreover, took part in several events organized simultaneously to the Berlinale. On February 14, the team of Fameuz.com was invited to the closed opening of the AUDI Berlinale Lounge where the premiere of the film “Symphony of Now” took place. The CEO and the Founder of the website, Olesya Leuenberger, interviewed the director of the film Johannes Shaff. Later during the festival, the head of marketing of AUDI, Jason Lusty, also answered some of our questions. Another major event attended by the company, in the partnership with the wonderful Ukrainian designer Olya Mak, who designed the special dress for the event, was the famous award organized by Italian film critics “Notte Delle Stelle” that awards annually the best Italian artists in the context of the Berlin International Film Festival. Furthermore, during the festival, Fameuz.com attended the “Cinema for Peace” event, which aims to raise awareness for the social relevance of feature films and documentaries. We also interviewed several renowned actors, directors and even politicians (Laura Baspuri – the director of the film “Figlia Mia”, Emily Atef and Marie Bäumer who worked on the film “3 Days in Quiberon”, the director of the documentary “Gurrumul”: Paul Damien Williams and many more). All the interviews conducted during the Berlinale will soon be available on our YouTube channel.
On February 24 during the closing ceremony, the winners of the 68th Berlinale were announced. In the biggest section of the festival, the Golden Bear for Best Film was awarded to a very controversial Romanian film about sexuality “Touch Me Not” directed by young and talented Adina Pintilie. Silver Bear for Best Director went to a renowned Wes Anderson whose film “Isle of Dogs” opened the festival. Silver Bear for Best Actress was given to Ana Brun from the movie “The Heiresses”, while the Silver Bear for Best Actor went to Anthony Bajon from the “The Prayer”. And the film “Twarz” (“Mug”) directed by Małgorzata Szumowska won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize.
